Propane Retailer Courses
These courses are designed for both those who handle propane and those who
sell it to wholesale and retail customers. They cover topics such as propane
properties and characteristics, handling and filling propane containers,
visually inspecting propane containers and valves, and for procedures to be
followed in handling an emergency.

Propane Pump Attendant PTI 100-01
Intended principally for Service Station attendants, and other entry-level
positions, this course is the foundation of the propane industry’s training
course. The course covers the physical properties of propane, WHMIS, TDG
exemptions, filling plant equipment emergency response procedures and
procedures for filling both cylinders and auto propane tanks. The course
manual can be used for either trainer led instruction or self- study exam
preparation.


Cylinder Filling PTI 100-08
This course is intended principally for propane service station attendants
who only dispense cylinder propane. This course covers the physical
properties of propane, WHMIS, TDG exemptions, filling plant equipment,
emergency response procedures for filling cylinders. This course dose not
cover filling of auto propane tanks. This course manual can be used for
either trainer led instruction or self-study exam preparation.


Filling of Auto Propane Tanks PTI 100-02
This course covers the physical properties of propane, description of
filling plants and motor fuel tanks and auto propane tank filling
procedures. This course manual can be used for either trainer led
instruction or self study exam preparation.


Transportation of Dangerous Goods PTI 100-03
Learn the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations for all aspects of
handling, offering for transport and transporting propane cylinders.


Cylinder Visual Inspection and Re-qualification PTI 100-04
Become a certified cylinder inspector through successful completion of this
course. This course covers the B149-2 Propane Storage and Handling Code and
Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations concerning the inspection and
re-qualification of CTC/DOT/TC propane cylinders.


Construction and Forklift Courses
Workers who use propane on construction sites and in warehouses need to
understand its special uses there. These courses cover proper storage,
handling and transporting procedures, as well as the safe operation of
propane fuelled equipment. Students can also learn how to inspect and
maintain construction heaters as well as how to safety use propane road
tankers and kettles.

Connection and use of Construction Heaters

This course covers the B149.2 Propane Storage and Handling Code requirements
concerning the handling, storage, transporting and installation of propane
cylinders and the safe use and installation of construction heaters and hand
held propane torches.


Inspection and Maintenance of Construction Heaters PTI 400-02
The leasor of construction heaters has the responsibility to ensure that the
equipment is in safe operating condition. This course covers the B149.2
Propane Storage and Handling Code concerning the inspection, maintenance and
inspection documentation of propane construction heaters. Please note that
some jurisdictions require this work to be completed by a licensed
gasfitter.

Fuelled Hot Tar or Bitumen Roadtankers and Kettles PTI 400-05
Propane is an excellent fuel
for roadtankers and kettles. Learn the safety rules and code requirement for
using propane containers to fuel roadtankers and kettles. Course covers
cylinder and tank code requirements, lighting propane burner and torches,
and procedures for safe propane use.

Filling
Propane Carburetion Cylinders By Weight PTI 400-07
Forklift cylinders are unique and require special filling procedures.
This course offers training in safe procedures for the filling of liquid
withdrawal propane forklift cylinders using the weight filling method.


Propane Carburetion Cylinder Exchange PTI 400-06
If you operate propane powered off road vehicles such as propane powered
forklifts, Zamboni and scissor lifts units, this course will provide
information necessary to meet the requirements of the B149.2 Propane Storage
and Handling code with respect to exchanging liquid withdrawal carburetion
propane cylinders used for engine fuel supply.


Connection
And Use Of Propane Torches PTI 400-08
If you operate propane
torches, this course provides information necessary to meet the requirements
of the B149.2 Propane Storage and Handling Code with respect to connecting
and using propane torches. This course covers the characteristics of
propane, general propane cylinder information, transportation of cylinders,
and the use of torches, regulators and hoses.


Bulk Truck Drivers Course PTI
300-01
This
trainer led course is designed to train bulk propane delivery drivers in
proper propane handling procedures in accordance with the B149.2 handling
and storage code. This course provides a description of bulk plant and bulk
delivery vehicle components as well as the “how to” of filling propane
tanks.


Rail Car
Unloading Propane/Butane PTI 300.02/03
This course
is designed to train bulk plant employees in the proper procedures for
unloading propane/butane from rail cars into storage tanks in accordance
with the B149.2 Propane Storage and Handling Code. This course outlines a
description of bulk plants and rail car components, propane testing, as well
as the “how to” of unloading rail cars.


300-05 Load Securement: Propane Tanks, Cylinder and Equipment
This course has been designed for individuals wishing to learn regulatory
requirements and Industry best-practices in respect to cargo loading and
securement of propane tanks, Cylinders and related equipment. While a
student may attend an instructor-led training course, this course has also
been designed to be led as on-the-job training. The student will also gain
initial knowledge through self-study of the course manual followed up with a
demonstration of correct procedures by the employer or a P•T•I certified
Trainer. In either case, the certification requirements listed below must be
achieved in order to successfully complete the course.
